Avalon — what you can and can't do on a cart
The rules
- Public-road use is permitted on streets posted at or below 25 mph.
- Standard golf carts may be used where registered with the town, rather than LSV plating.
- Driver must be at least 16 years old and hold a valid state driver's license.
- Avalon requires a city vehicle permit for each autoette (golf cart), limited to one per residence, and the city code currently has a moratorium on accepting new autoette permits. Autoettes are limited to 130 inches in length (electric NEV/LSV vehicles to 138).
- Every passenger must be in a designated seat with a functioning seat belt where required. No riding on laps, bumpers, or cargo beds.
- No riding under the influence. The same DUI rules that apply to cars apply to golf carts.
- Yield to pedestrians and bicycles. Use headlights and taillights whenever visibility is reduced.
