The rules
- Public-road use is permitted on streets posted at or below 18 mph.
- Standard golf carts may be used where registered with the town, rather than LSV plating.
- Driver must be at least 16 years old and hold a valid state driver's license.
- Bald Head Island is car-free and golf carts are the primary vehicle; carts must be driven by a licensed driver, registered with the Village, and kept to the 18 mph island-wide speed limit. Carts are not allowed on the beach, and ATVs/gators are prohibited on Village streets.
- Every passenger must be in a designated seat with a functioning seat belt where required. No riding on laps, bumpers, or cargo beds.
- No riding under the influence. The same DUI rules that apply to cars apply to golf carts.
- Yield to pedestrians and bicycles. Use headlights and taillights whenever visibility is reduced.
