The rules

1. Public-road use is permitted on streets posted at or below 35 mph.
2. Standard golf carts may be used where registered with the town, rather than LSV plating.
3. Carts are limited to 20 mph.
4. Driver must be at least 16 years old and hold a valid state driver's license.
5. Permitted golf carts (town permit, $100/yr, no new permits since July 2023) and state-plated LSVs may use roads posted 35 mph or less; golf carts are banned town-wide starting Jan 1, 2028, while LSVs stay legal.
6. Every passenger must be in a designated seat with a functioning seat belt where required. No riding on laps, bumpers, or cargo beds.
7. No riding under the influence. The same DUI rules that apply to cars apply to golf carts.
8. Yield to pedestrians and bicycles. Use headlights and taillights whenever visibility is reduced.

Local tips

• The town no longer issues new golf cart permits and plans to ban standard golf carts from town streets on Jan 1, 2028. Street-legal LSVs stay legal.
• Lake Park Blvd gets tight on summer weekends — take Canal Drive parallel.
• Ask about a cooler mount before booking a beach day.
