Kure Beach — what you can and can't do on a cart
The rules
- Public-road use is permitted on streets posted at or below 35 mph.
- Only Low-Speed Vehicles (LSVs) with a plate, insurance, seat belts and DOT lighting may operate on public streets.
- Driver must be at least 16 years old and hold a valid state driver's license.
- LSV-plated carts allowed on town streets ≤35 mph. Shares Pleasure Island enforcement conventions with Carolina Beach.
- Every passenger must be in a designated seat with a functioning seat belt where required. No riding on laps, bumpers, or cargo beds.
- No riding under the influence. The same DUI rules that apply to cars apply to golf carts.
- Yield to pedestrians and bicycles. Use headlights and taillights whenever visibility is reduced.
