Street-legal rules

Myrtle Beach — what you can and can't do on a cart

Golf carts permitted on streets ≤ 35 mph.

The rules

  1. Public-road use is permitted on streets posted at or below 35 mph.
  2. Standard golf carts may be used where registered with the town, rather than LSV plating.
  3. Driver must be at least 16 years old and hold a valid state driver's license.
  4. Ocean Blvd and most city arterials are OFF-LIMITS to golf carts. Even LSV-plated carts are restricted to neighborhood streets ≤35 mph, daylight, within 4 miles of registered address.
  5. Every passenger must be in a designated seat with a functioning seat belt where required. No riding on laps, bumpers, or cargo beds.
  6. No riding under the influence. The same DUI rules that apply to cars apply to golf carts.
  7. Yield to pedestrians and bicycles. Use headlights and taillights whenever visibility is reduced.
