North Myrtle Beach — what you can and can't do on a cart

Golf carts permitted on streets ≤ 35 mph.

The rules

  1. Public-road use is permitted on streets posted at or below 35 mph.
  2. Only Low-Speed Vehicles (LSVs) with a plate, insurance, seat belts and DOT lighting may operate on public streets.
  3. Driver must be at least 16 years old and hold a valid state driver's license.
  4. SC permits LSV/street-legal carts on roads ≤35 mph within 4 miles of registered address, in daylight. Slow-moving-vehicle triangle required on non-LSV carts.
  5. Every passenger must be in a designated seat with a functioning seat belt where required. No riding on laps, bumpers, or cargo beds.
  6. No riding under the influence. The same DUI rules that apply to cars apply to golf carts.
  7. Yield to pedestrians and bicycles. Use headlights and taillights whenever visibility is reduced.
