Ocracoke — what you can and can't do on a cart

Golf carts permitted on streets ≤ 25 mph.

The rules

  1. Public-road use is permitted on streets posted at or below 25 mph.
  2. LSV registration is not required for standard on-village cart use.
  3. Driver must be at least 16 years old and hold a valid state driver's license.
  4. Ocracoke Village is cart-friendly island-wide with a 25 mph limit. Carts are treated as a primary vehicle in the village.
  5. Every passenger must be in a designated seat with a functioning seat belt where required. No riding on laps, bumpers, or cargo beds.
  6. No riding under the influence. The same DUI rules that apply to cars apply to golf carts.
  7. Yield to pedestrians and bicycles. Use headlights and taillights whenever visibility is reduced.
