Sedona: red rocks, uptown, and trailheads.

Sedona's views are the point, and an open-air cart or e-bike beats a windshield every time. Uptown parking is brutal — a cart solves it.

Street-legal rules

Sedona — what you can and can't do on a cart

Golf carts permitted on streets ≤ 35 mph.

The rules

  1. Public-road use is permitted on streets posted at or below 35 mph.
  2. Only Low-Speed Vehicles (LSVs) with a plate, seat belts and DOT lighting may operate on public streets.
  3. Driver must be at least 16 years old and hold a valid state driver's license.
  4. Under Arizona law, neighborhood electric/low-speed vehicles may not use roads posted above 35 mph, though they may cross them at intersections. Sedona's city code has no separate golf cart provision.
  5. Every passenger must be in a designated seat with a functioning seat belt where required. No riding on laps, bumpers, or cargo beds.
  6. No riding under the influence. The same DUI rules that apply to cars apply to golf carts.
  7. Yield to pedestrians and bicycles. Use headlights and taillights whenever visibility is reduced.

Local tips

  • SR-89A and SR-179 are busy state routes — LSV carts only, and avoid peak hours.
  • Elevation and grades drain batteries faster; plan charge stops.

Summaries of publicly posted municipal ordinances. Guidance only — you are responsible for following current local law. Verify with the town office before riding on public roads.
