The rules

1. Public-road use is permitted on streets posted at or below 35 mph.
2. Standard golf carts may be used where registered with the town, rather than LSV plating.
3. Driver must be at least 16 years old and hold a valid state driver's license.
4. Rockport allows plated golf carts, ROVs and utility vehicles on city streets posted 35 mph or less, with a $40 annual permit sticker, slow-moving-vehicle triangle and a valid driver's license; they are banned from state highways and farm-to-market roads, sidewalks and hike-and-bike trails.
5. Every passenger must be in a designated seat with a functioning seat belt where required. No riding on laps, bumpers, or cargo beds.
6. No riding under the influence. The same DUI rules that apply to cars apply to golf carts.
7. Yield to pedestrians and bicycles. Use headlights and taillights whenever visibility is reduced.
