- Driver must be at least 17 years old and hold a valid state driver's license.
- New Jersey law allows plated LSVs on public roads posted 25 mph or less, and a municipality may by ordinance allow roads up to 35 mph or prohibit them.
- Every passenger must be in a designated seat with a functioning seat belt where required. No riding on laps, bumpers, or cargo beds.
- No riding under the influence. The same DUI rules that apply to cars apply to golf carts.
- Yield to pedestrians and bicycles. Use headlights and taillights whenever visibility is reduced.
